The Alfonso Gran Selección is the sequel to the highly rated Alfonso Añejo. Alfonso Gran Selección features an oily, rich Ecuadorian Habano wrapper cloaked over a Peruvian binder and Dominican and Nicarguan fillers that provide a darker flavor profile than its predecessor.
Selected Tobacco products are known for their meticulous aging process once the cigars have been rolled. The cigars are placed into cedar-lined rooms while raising and lowering humidity to allow the cigars to cleanse themselves over time. For Alfonso Gran Selección this process takes five years & their final aging is done in rooms lined with French Oak. The use of French Oak in the aging process was also used for the Alfonso Añejo and Byron 1850 lines.
Atabey is produced every year in limited quantities and laid to rest for a minimum of 5 YEARS POST-ROLL. Using five different cedars (Cuban, Spanish, Lebanese, Brazilian & Mexican) the cigars are cleansed by bringing humidity down to 40% and then back up to 70% to allow the cigars to breathe in these unique cedar notes. As the Goddess of the Taino Indians, Atabey is rich in history and flavor. It was the Taino Indians who first smoked a primitive form of what is known today as a cigar while praying to their Goddess Atabey. This spiritual ceremony was known as the Cohiba and the tribe communication to Atabey was communicated through their spiritual guide, the Behike.
In 1848 Jose and Eusebio Alfonso, cousins, opened a small cigar factory in Santiago de Las Vegas, a province of Havana, Cuba and created a cigar brand named Lord Byron in honor of this world renowned English poet. He was arguably the greatest author of romantic poetries of the day and more importantly pertaining to the brand, an avid cigar smoker and enthusiast. Some researchers say “Lord Byron became the first cigar brand to adorn a lithographed cigar band and label with a name on it”. More than eighty years later, in the 1930’s, The Great Depression hits and Lord Byron cigars were gone, but not forever. Now…150 years later the original owners’ great-great-great grandson Nelson Alfonso recovered again the Byron brand name in 1998.

A beautiful balance of aged tobaccos that offer a medium/full-bodied experience. A combination of popcorn and cedar with rich espresso beans, sweet earth, barnyard, powdery cocoa, leather and sourdough bread. In addition, the retro hale features black pepper, with maple notes. Both the flavor and body are a medium, but the strength makes a more substantial jump to end at a point slightly above medium.
